Winter Marathon Training Program

Registration for the 2026 Program is Closed.
Join the Winter Marathon Training Program (WMT) with MCRRC! Whether you’re chasing your first 26.2 or aiming for a PR, the Winter Marathon Training Program (WMT) is your path to a strong spring race. Designed for runners of all paces, WMT offers expert coaching, structured training, and a built-in community to help you stay motivated through the cold months and show up at the start line confident and prepared. All Paces Welcome! You don’t need to be fast to join—just committed. Runners are grouped by pace and ability (from 8:30 to 13:00 min/mile long runs), so you’ll always have training partners who match your speed and goals. Your Race. Your Goal: While many WMT runners train for popular spring races like the Shamrock Marathon, B&A Trail Marathon, or even the Boston Marathon, our coaches are here to support you—whether you’re preparing for a marathon, an ultra, or something in between.
Prerequisites: Participants should have a consistent mileage base of at least 25 miles per week and be able to comfortably run 12 miles at one time. Participants should be ready to train consistently and finish a spring marathon injury-free. A positive mindset and love for the long run are always a plus! MCRRC Membership is required for participation in this program. If you are not a member, you will have the opportunity to join MCRRC during registration. Participants must be 18 or older to register.
Structure: Here’s what you’ll get with the program: two, weekly group workouts on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM at the Montgomery Blair High School track (51 University Blvd. E, Silver Spring), and Sunday mornings for a long run starting at 7:30 AM, which will rotate locations across Montgomery County! Please note the track location is always subject to change at any time during the program, due to availability.
During registration, you will be asked to provide at least one recent race time to help us to place you in an appropriate pace group. Our experienced coaches are on hand to provide personalized support as well as race prep tips and participants will enjoy camaraderie and a motivating, team atmosphere within the pace groups. Participants will receive email-based updates to keep you informed (and warm!)
The program will build up safely to an average weekly mileage of 40-50 miles and a 20-mile long run.
Cost: Online registration is $99.56. This price includes the registration + processing fee. You may pay less in processing fees per participant if you add more items to your cart. The cost does not include entry into a goal race, but does include a premium.
