Turkey Burnoff 5/ 10 Mile 2024

RACE OVERVIEW:
Work off those extra holiday calories at one of our most popular club races, the Turkey Burnoff 5 and 10 Mile race at Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg. The course is scenic (double loop for 10 miles) and you’ll burn off that third helping of pumpkin pie on the gently rolling hills. The park deer occasionally make a cameo appearance and they don’t brake for runners! All runners need to be in the park by 7:50 AM.
THE COURSE:
The course has rolling hills while running across a dam and through the woods on park paved roads. Both the 5-mile and 10-mile start and finish in the same location.

PARKING:
The park has limited parking. Please make every attempt to carpool and arrive early. Per Seneca Creek State Park Management’s request, the gate at the ranger’s booth (where you would pay the entry fee during warmer months) will be closed at 7:50 AM sharp. You must arrive before then in order to park in the grassy field near the Start/Finish area. If you arrive at 7:50 AM or later, you will have to park in the admin office parking lot and walk/run a 1/2 mile to the start. Don’t delay and avoid having to climb one extra hill!
REGISTRATION:
MCRRC Members –
This race is part of our low-key race series and is FREE for MCRRC members. Race registration is not required for members; however, members must signup for a 2024 bib & chip. Your bib & chip will then be waiting for you at the race (or any other low-key race of 2024). If you have a 2023 (or older) chip, please bring it with you to exchange for your 2024 bib & chip. If you are a new member, or no longer have an older chip, please remember to bring a $5 chip deposit with you. If you already signed up for a personalized 2024 bib, you do NOT need to register online – your bib will be waiting for you at any low-key race of the year.
Non-MCRRC Members –
Registration is to non-MCRRC members at a cost of $15 for participants ages 18 & over and $10 for participants under 18. Online registration will remain open until the start of the race. Late registrants may register online before leaving the house or from your smartphone at the race site. Please remember to bring your credit card or cash with you if you plan to register on race morning. Non-members can register coming soon!
Bib and chip pickup will take place on race morning near the start area. A volunteer will be on hand to assist you.
YOUNG RUNS:
There will be no timing chips used for the young runs. The runs are FREE, but all participants must be registered by a parent or guardian prior to race day (members and non-members). Register here. ***IMPORTANT NOTE: Parents or Guardians DO NOT need to register for the young runs to accompany your child. You are welcome to jump right in with them, if needed!
VOLUNTEER:
MCRRC is a volunteer organization and our events are fully staffed by the hard work of our volunteers. Without them, our races wouldn’t be possible. Volunteers are needed for this event. Signup to volunteer coming soon!
REFUNDS:
If you are a non-MCRRC member, and can no longer attend the race, please contact office@mcrrc.org so that we can move your registration to another MCRRC low-key event and open up a spot for someone else. Monetary refunds will not be provided.
