DESCRIPTION:RACE OVERVIEW: \nMCRRC was born in March of 1978\, though Piece of Cake was created more than 25 years ago (March 24\, 1996)!  Join us in celebrating the club’s birthday with a new course beginning and ending at Meadow Hall Elementary in Rockville. The 10K (CS) and 5K races will start at 8:30 AM. \nAt the race site\, we will be collecting donations for “So What Else” Food Rescue Bank‘s shelf-life lunch kits\, snacks\, and drinks. Please consider a donation of shelf stable items for their school programs\, including child diapers of any size. There will be a labeled box inside the school to collect donations. Thank you for your generosity! \n  \nCOURSE MAP: \n5K Course Map \n10K Course Map \n  \nREGISTRATION: \n\nMCRRC Members – \n\nThis race is part of our low-key race series and is FREE for MCRRC members.  Race registration is not required for members; however\, members must first signup for a 2026 bib & chip. SUMMARY:Capital for a Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:RACE OVERVIEW: \nThe Capital for a Day 5K commemorates the day in 1814 when Brookeville\, Maryland was the capital of the United States. When the British invaded Washington\, DC\, during the War of 1812\, President Madison fled the White House. He arrived in Brookeville on August 14\, 1814\, and spent one night there before returning to the White House the following day. Brookeville has never forgotten that it was “Capital for a Day.” \nThe race starts at Rosa Parks Middle School in Olney (just south of Brookeville) and runs on neighborhood streets.  The roads will not be closed\, so everyone is encouraged to remain aware of traffic. DESCRIPTION:ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE? \nCome run the infamous Riley’s Rumble Half Marathon for a challenging and rewarding race experience. \nDo you love running hills? Do you love running in summer heat? Does the DC area humidity inspire you to get out and sweat it out?  If you said yes to any of these questions\, or even if you didn’t\, come out & join us — you won’t regret it!  It’s generally understood that Riley’s Rumble is not a good idea for your first half marathon\, but that depends on your personal level of crazy! \n  \nCOURSE MAP \nA course map can be viewed here. \n  \nREGISTRATION: \n\nMCRRC Members – \n\nThis race is part of our low-key race series and is FREE for MCRRC members.  Race registration is not required for members; however\, members must first signup for a 2026 bib & chip. Try to arrive no later than 7 AM to help us get everyone through the line. Volunteers will be on hand to assist you. \n\n  \nMINIMUM PACE: \n\nOur permits require that participants not exceed 15 minutes per mile.  Please do not attempt Riley’s Rumble if you are not confident of completing the course at that pace. \n  \nON-COURSE SUPPORT: \nWater\, Gatorade\, and ice will be provided every two to three miles along the course and at the start/finish. Popsicles will be provided just after the turnaround between mile 8 and 9. (Popsicle Protocol: Just before the turnaround\, yell out your flavor preference and after the turnaround\, the volunteers will have it ready for you!) \nThere will be port-o-johns at the start/finish\, but not along the course. Beware of venturing off-road – poison ivy is rampant in the forest.  Plus\, the sight of you “relieving yourself” could be uncomfortable for both you and other participants! \nEnergy gels will no longer be provided.  Participants must carry their own supplements. \n  \nAT THE FINISH: \nWatermelon\, bananas\, and other refreshments will be available at the finish. There are no awards\, t-shirts\, or finisher medals. You won’t need a finisher medal to remember you have done Riley’s. \n  \nVOLUNTEER: \nMCRRC is a volunteer organization and our events are fully staffed by the hard work of our volunteers.  Without them\, our races wouldn’t be possible. DESCRIPTION:RACE OVERVIEW: \nThe theme for this race is School Spirit! So come dressed and ready to run in your favorite school’s team apparel! \nThe 8K race starts at 7:30 AM at the stripe in the road at the first entrance to the playground parking lot\, on the approach from Jackson Road. The turnaround is at the perpendicular of the center court lines of the basketball courts and the hiker-biker trail in the woods. The race finishes at the first perpendicular from the restroom’s first wall on the approach from the parking lot to the hiker-biker trail. DESCRIPTION:RACE OVERVIEW: \nThe 5K race will be held at Calleva Farm in Dickerson. The course offers views of horses\, hayfields and a big\, red barn – you can’t get more country than that in Montgomery County! And breaking a long-standing MCRRC tradition\, the race features a downhill finish. The location is in the far west end of the county\, so please be sure to map it and allow extra travel time to get there. \n  \nLOCATION INFORMATION: \nThe address is 19120 Martinsburg Road in Dickerson\, MD. Parking will be available in a designated portion of the hay field (please follow the directions of the volunteers). DESCRIPTION:RACE OVERVIEW: \nStart the holiday season by challenging yourself to some gently rolling hills in scenic Seneca Creek State Park as you run one loop for the 5-mile race\, or a second loop for twice the fun. The park deer occasionally make a cameo appearance and they don’t brake for runners! All participants need to be in the park by 7:50 AM. \n \n  \nSCHEDULE OF EVENTS: \n8:o0 AM – 5 Mile Race \n8:00 AM – 10 Mile Race \n8:05 AM – 2.78-km Young Run (YS)  \n  \nTHE COURSE: \nThe course takes place on paved roads over rolling hills\, across a dam\, and through the woods. Both the 5 and 10 mile courses start and finish in the same location. \n5 Mile Race – Course Map \n10-mile Race – Course Map \n  \nPARKING: \nThe park has limited parking. Please make every attempt to carpool and arrive early. Per Seneca Creek State Park Management’s request\, the gate at the ranger’s booth (where you would pay the entry fee during warmer months) will be closed at 7:50 AM sharp. You must arrive before then in order to park in the grassy field near the Start/Finish area. If you arrive at 7:50 AM or later\, you will have to park in the admin office parking lot and walk or run half a mile to the start.
