Thursday Weekly Easy Run

Overview
Enjoy running with others at a conversational pace on Thursday evenings. Runners and walkers at all paces are welcome. (All conversation topics are welcome, too!) There are a variety of routes from 3 to 4 miles. You do not need to be a club member to participate in these runs. There is no fee.
We start running at 6:30 PM or within a few minutes after. (On particularly frigid nights, we may start a few minutes early if everyone who has posted to the yahoo group has arrived.) Most people arrive 5-10 minutes early to figure out who they’re going to run with or make last-minute clothing choices.
Winter – Paved Trails
3rd Thursday in September – 2nd Thursday in April
Mattie Stepanek Park (https://www.rockvillemd.gov/facilities/facility/details/mattie-jt-stepanek-park-37) 1800 Piccard Dr. Rockville — Meet in the large parking lot off Piccard Drive (not the small lot off Gaither Rd.)
We run on the streets and sidewalks of the neighborhood, typically making a loop from Piccard to Gude back to Gaither to Piccard and around the park trail to get to 3 miles. More miles can be added after this loop.
It’s dark out there! Wear reflective clothing and bring a headlamp or flashlight.
The park bathrooms across the fields are typically not open in winter but may be open in the shoulder seasons.
Summer – Paved Trails
3rd Saturday in April – 2nd Saturday in September
Needwood Lake Circle – Park in 2nd parking lot as you go round the circle. Meet at south end of parking lot.
We run out and back on the Rock Creek Hiker/Biker Trail heading south. There are fountains at miles 1.8 and 3.65 (and again on the way back, of course).
The trails are shared with cyclists, strollers, and wildlife. The trails are wooded and usually a bit cooler than the street temperature. There is a porta-potty at the lower end of the Needwood parking lot.
