COVID-19 Agreement for Participants:

By registering for this event, you agree to follow these important safety protocol and acknowledge that any participant not adhering to this protocol will be removed from the race without refund.  Thank you for your cooperation!

As a participant in the Piece of Cake 10K, you agree to the following policies and procedures.  We understand that these new procedures may make this racing experience different from past races, but they are necessary to ensure the health and safety of runners, volunteers, and everyone in our community.  We thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

1. If you are not feeling well on the day of the race or have not felt well within the two weeks prior to the race, please stay home.  You can find information about the symptoms of COVID-19 and the risks to yourself and your community online.

2. Please ALWAYS maintain social distance (at least 6 feet) from all individuals not in your immediate household.

3. Masks, properly fitted to cover both the nose and mouth, are required to be worn at all times except during the actual race.  You may remove your mask after crossing the start line and must put it back on after crossing the finish line.

4. Runners will start the race in socially distant groups of 10 with a new group starting every 3 minutes.  Runners will be pre-assigned to a starting group and must start within that group.  If necessary, the Race Director may adjust the starting groups to ensure the safety of participants.

5. Runners should maintain social distance on the paths during the race and should place their masks back on if they need to pass another runner.  Runners should pass on the left.

6. After crossing the finish line, runners are required to put their masks back on.

7. No congregating in the finish area or in the park after the race is permitted. Runners should remain at their vehicle until they feel they are safe to drive.

8. Due to gathering limitations, this event is limited to registered participants and registered volunteers ONLY.  We are unable to welcome spectators, family members, friends, crew, pacers, unofficial aid stations, etc.

Registration for MCRRC Members:

PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR ALL MEMBERS and will be limited to members only at this point.  The field size will not exceed 200 participants.  There will be NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION.

Pre-registration for an MCRRC Member bib & chip are also required prior to registering for this race.  You will be asked to enter the bib number assigned to you, so you must have that before continuing. 2020 Member bibs & chips will be reused for 2021.  If you already have one, or registered for one last year, please refrain from registering a second time. You can search for your bib number here.  If you have not yet registered for a Member bib & chip, you may do so here.  Information on how to pick up your bib & chip (if you don’t have it from 2020) will be provided to all registered for this race before race day.

Registration for Non-MCRRC Members:

Registration is open for non-members. The field size will not exceed 200 participants.  Please note that we are unable to make exceptions to our field size due to county regulations.  Registration for non-members is $15 (age 18 & over) and $10 (non-members under 18).  Monetary refunds will not be provided, but should you not be able to participate, you may transfer your registration to another equally priced MCRRC race. Please contact office@mcrrc.org.

Start / Finish Area:

Please note that the start and finish of the race will look different than we are used to. Participants and volunteers will be required to wear a mask, properly fitted to cover both nose and mouth, at all times in the start / finish area of the race.

The start of the race will be conducted as a wave start, with groups of 10 starting every few minutes to allow for proper social distance along the race route.  Please note that you are required to start at the time you are assigned.

Participants are required to maintain social distancing at ALL TIMES and upon finishing the race, return to their vehicles as quickly as possible. Please do not linger in the start/finish area.  As such, this event is limited to registered participants and registered volunteers ONLY.  We are unable to welcome spectators, family members, friends, crew, pacers, unofficial aid stations, etc.  Failure to adhere to this request can easily put us over our gathering limit and is in direct violation of our COVID-19 plan approval by Montgomery County Health and Human Services.  This could put future approvals at risk.

Refreshments:

There will be NO refreshments (including water) available at this event – neither before, during, or after the run.  Participants are encouraged to carry personal water for during the run and to bring their own water, snacks and other items needed for post-race.  As there will be no bag check, please keep all personal items in your car.

Restrooms:

Restrooms will not be available.  Participants should plan to “go” before leaving the house or on the way to the race.  Additionally, we discourage the use of “nature” as doing so can not only make other participants uncomfortable, but if seen, can jeopardize obtaining future permits.

During the Race:

While masks are not required to be worn while running, they are required to remain on until participants cross the starting line. Please keep a face covering with you for use when passing another runner and during all times when social distancing cannot be achieved.

All participants will be required to put their mask back on after crossing the finish line. If a runner has lost their mask, a volunteer will have disposable masks to distribute as needed.

When at all possible, please refrain from purposely discarding your mask on the race route. This is not only considered littering, but is unhealthy exposure to others.

Spectators:

This event is limited to registered participants and registered volunteers ONLY.  We are unable to welcome spectators, family members, friends, crew, pacers, unofficial aid stations, etc.  Failure to adhere to this request can easily put us over our gathering limit and is in direct violation of our COVID-19 plan approval by Montgomery County Health and Human Services.  If a friend or family member must accompany you to the event they are asked to remain in your vehicle during the event.

Health & Wellness:

Now more than ever, please pay close attention to your health prior to attending this event.  If you have been exposed to COVID-19 or another person with COVID-19, please stay home.  If you have cold symptoms, a mild fever, or just “don’t feel well,” we ask that you please stay home. All participants are subject to temperature checks at the discretion of our race staff.

Following the Rules:

Please understand that these safety measures have been put in place for the safety of all participants, race staff and volunteers and most are required under our permits and current county regulations.  Your participation in this event is optional – but the protocols are not.  Should these COVID-19 protocols make you uncomfortable, we would suggest you refrain from attending.  Race staff and volunteers have the authority to ask anyone not following safety protocols to leave the race site.

VOLUNTEERS:

Due to gathering limitations, volunteers for this event will be extremely limited.  That being said, we do still need a few.  If you would like to volunteer, please signup here. Please note that only official, pre-registered volunteers are permitted at the race site. Thank you for your volunteerism & for your cooperation!
