New Years Day 5K

- 9:30am 5km race - course map
Start the new year off right with a fun 5K at 9:30am (you can sleep in!).
Parking will be on the grassy hill where we park for Under the Lights and Turkey Burn off. However, registration will be at Park Headquarters, located near the main entrance, a distance of 1/4 mile.
Please print out the Club Race Form and fill it out before the race to help speed registration. Members, please bring your 2011 timing chip or $5.00 deposit in order to get your timing chip for 2012.
The race is part of our low-key club race series and is free for MCRRC members, $10 for non-members 18 and over, and $5 for non-members under 18. Registration is race-day only starting an hour before the race.

Shooting Starr

This race is named in memory of club member, Jim Starr.
The race is a two loop course that starts at the Sligo Middle School (1401 Dennis Ave Silver Spring, MD 20902), follows the Sligo Creek Trail towards University Ave, then meanders through side streets, looping back to finish along Dennis Ave near the Middle School.
The race is part of our low-key club race series and is free for MCRRC members, $10 for non-members 18 and over, and $5 for non-members under 18. Registration is race-day only starting an hour before the race.

Join us in celebrating MCRRC's birthday with a run through scenic Seneca Creek State Park. You'll encounter rolling hills on the park's quiet roads and expect a few deer sightings along the way. Following the races will be our Annual Meeting, so stick around for some birthday cake!
The park has limited parking. Please make every attempt to carpool and arrive early. Park rangers will monitor parking occasionally and will ask us to turn away vehicles once we reach the limit. We cannot allow illegal parking as doing so will jeopardize our ability to obtain permits for future races at Seneca Creek State Park.

Spin in the Woods

Different course for 2012!
This cross country features dirt trails, forest, and obstacles (small creek, mostly-dry creek bed, and fallen trees) to jump over and duck under. It's so much fun that you'll get to do it twice in this two-loop, 8km course.

From I-495, take exit 43-44 and follow signs for Georgetown Pike, 193, west. Follow Georgetown Pike west approximately .6 miles west from the beltway to the main parking area on the right hand side at the bottom of the hill (at the intersection with Swinks Mill Road). Additional very limited parking is available only .3 miles from the beltway (before descending the hill, on the right hand side). Note that the park is listed on some maps as "Dranesville District Park". Please car pool and come early as parking is extremely limited!

Rock Creek Trail Cleanup

Please join MCRRC and the general public for cleanup of the Rock Creek Trail and the Matthew Henson Trail on April 22 (Earth Day), 2012, 9 AM to Noon. Registration for this part of our traditional celebration of Earth Day will be held from 8-9 AM at KenGar Recreation Center, which is at 11000 Beach Drive, 1/4 mile north of Knowles Ave. in Kensington. Plenty of parking is available extending onto Wexford Drive. Restrooms and drinking water are available.
All are welcome to join us in cleaning segments of the entire Rock Creek and Matthew Henson Trails and feeder paths as well as dry feeder streams, roadways, and the Lake Needwood area, not the waterways themselves. Keep your eyes and ears open as you RUN AWARE through trails at Cabin John Regional Park, a cross-country challenge for all of your senses. You’ll travel on hills, run near streams, and enjoy the sights in the early spring. Be prepared to get wet and muddy—precipitation and wet trails are a possibility. Our 5K starts at 8 AM, followed by our Junior Participation 1K starts five minutes later.

Juni Rennen

Juni Rennen (German for June Race) is the replacement for Capitol Crescent 5k, which we needed to move because of construction at the Capitol Crescent Trail. The race is on paved trails and roads in South Germantown Park. The course is somewhat hilly, but nothing compared to some of our other races.

From I-270, take Exit 15B (Route 118 South) toward Germantown. Continue on Route 118 for 4.5 miles to Germantown Park Drive. Turn left. The start is located about ¼ mile up Germantown Park Drive. Parking is available at the start and at the nearby playground.

Turkey Burnoff

Work off those extra holiday calories at one of our most popular club races, the Turkey Burnoff at Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg. The course is scenic and you'll burn off that third helping of pumpkin pie on the gently rolling hills. The park deer occasionally make a cameo appearance, and they don't brake for runners! Registration is race-day only, get there at least 30 minutes early to park and walk to the signup area.
The park has only limited parking. Please make every attempt to carpool and arrive early. We will monitor parking very closely and turn away cars once we reach the limit. If you are turned away, there is limited parking available at the St.Rose of Lima Parish church (11701 Clopper Rd) just up the road from the park entrance. However, if you have to park out there, you will have a long walk to the start line. We can not allow any illegal parking, as doing so will jeopardize our ability to obtain permits for future races in Seneca Creek State Park. Pets of all kind, whether on a leash or not, are not allowed in Seneca Creek State Park.
