New Years Day 5K

February 2009 is going to be an exciting time in Montgomery County as MCRRC and Montgomery Parks host the USA Cross County Championships at the Agricultural History Farm Park in Derwood, MD on Saturday February 7, 2009. Be sure to attend and watch the best runners in the nation compete for prestigious championship titles.
Everyone can run on a championship course too—we will have a 4km Community Cross Country race at 9:00am. Runners of all paces and ages are encouraged to participate and open, masters, and high school teams are welcome.

Run Aware 5k

Join us on the first day of March to Run Aware in Wheaton Regional Park! This race starts and finishes near the inline skating rink. Runners will get a taste of flats, hills, and trails on this beautiful new scenic course.

Take I-495 to Georgia Ave/MD-97 North. Proceed north on Georgia Ave approximately 2.6 miles. Turn right on Arcola Avenue and proceed approximately 0.8 miles. Take a left on Orebaugh Ave. and proceed approximately one block into Wheaton Regional Park. Follow the traffic marshals' direction and park ONLY in the upper lot past the ice skating rink. The race starts and finishes at the inline skating rink, a few hundred yards past the upper parking lot.

Piece of Cake
Saturday, March 21, 2009 - Gaithersburg

Join us in celebrating MCRRC's birthday with a run through scenic Seneca Creek State Park. There will be .25 and .5 mile Young Runs beginning at 9:00am. The 10k (Championship Series) starts at 9:15am and you'll encounter rolling hills on the park's quiet roads, and expect a few deer sightings along the way. The 2.78 kilometer run is part of the Junior Participation Series and begins at 9:20am. Following the race will be our Annual Meeting, so stick around for some birthday cake!
The park has only limited parking. Please make every attempt to carpool and arrive early. We will monitor parking very closely and turn away cars once we reach the limit. If you are turned away, there is limited parking available at the church just up the road from the park entrance. However, if you have to park out there, you will have a long walk to the start line. We can not allow any illegal parking, as doing so will jeopardize our ability to obtain permits for future races in Seneca Creek State Park. Pets of all kind, whether on a leash or not, are not allowed in Seneca Creek State Park.

Difficult Run Cross Country

Truly a difficult run, this cross country offers dirt trails once you make it to the top of a dirt hill so steep, you'll feel like you're climbing a wall. It's so much fun that you'll get to do it twice as a part of this two-loop course. If we're lucky, they'll be some obstacles on the course (fallen trees), too.

From I-495, take exit 43-44 and follow signs for Georgetown Pike, 193, west. Follow Georgetown Pike west approximately .6 miles west from the beltway to the main parking area on the right hand side at the bottom of the hill (at the intersection with Swinks Mill Road). Additional very limited parking is available only .3 miles from the beltway (before descending the hill, on the right hand side). Note that the park is listed on some maps as "Dranesville District Park". Please car pool and come early as parking is extremely limited!
Firebirds Mile

New Direction for Go For The Glory!
Well, kinda…we’re still going to be running around in circles on a Friday night, but we’d like to announce an important environmental direction for the race- We’re Going Green!!! The race is heartily endorsing the initiatives of the club's Green Team, and will be renamed the Going Green Track Meet.
In addition, this year’s meet will unveil a new program order and a new event. The meet will still start with four heats of the Championship Series 2-Mile and progress to two heats of the mile, but will conclude with a 4x400 relay (an exciting new addition!!).
Special thanks to Green Team leaders Nicole Deziel, Cyndi Gregory and Daryl Hultquist for their help in moving forward with warp speed and to Jean Arthur and George Tarrico for their support and encouragement.

Turkey Burnoff

Work off those extra holiday calories at one of our most popular club races, the Turkey Burnoff at Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg. The course is scenic and you'll burn off that third helping of pumpkin pie on the gently rolling hills. The park deer occasionally make a cameo appearance, and they don't brake for runners! Registration is race-day only, get there at least 30 minutes early to park and walk to the signup area.
The park has only limited parking. Please make every attempt to carpool and arrive early. We will monitor parking very closely and turn away cars once we reach the limit. If you are turned away, there is limited parking available at the St.Rose of Lima Parish church (11701 Clopper Rd) just up the road from the park entrance.
