Beginning Women Runners
The Beginning Women’s Running program is designed specifically for women, often coined Running Roses , just beginning to run, or those coming back to running- via a structured, supportive environment. This is a non-competitive program for women of all shapes, sizes and skill level where each individual can progress at their own pace according to their ability. Our season starts on March 20, 2012 and culminates with completing the Run for Roses 5k on June 16, 2012.
The program is designed to gradually increase each member’s endurance and the distance they are able to run. We hope that this environment will encourage women of similar training/pace levels to find running partners during and after the program ends. The program continues for 13 weeks with two coached sessions per week and 1-2 non-coached sessions. Our volunteer coaches provide participants with individual attention. Throughout the season, either coaches or guest speakers will provide short informative sessions on various aspects of training – including running gear, form, nutrition, and race preparation.

Workout Schedule
Orientation: An orientation will be held on March 20, 2012 in the faculty/staff dining room CC 158, this is the building next to the Physical Education building to the right of the track at Montgomery College in Rockville at 6:30pm. We will have signs and someone directing you to the appropriate spot so you won’t get lost. There will be an introduction and then a short time trial to place participants in pace groups for the season, so please come dressed to run and have some water. We will also try to have additional registration opportunities available after orientation.
Weekly Group Runs:
Tuesday Run
Tuesday evening workouts will be at Montgomery College in Rockville and will start promptly at 6:30 pm. During a few of these workouts we will start 15 minutes earlier to feature guest speakers, notification will be sent via the Yahoo! group prior to practice.
Saturday Run
The group will meet Saturday mornings at 7:30am; locations will vary throughout the season. The reason for switching venues is to allow runners to vary their scenery and experience different trails in the county.
*Participants will also be expected to do some running on their own 1-2 other times during the week.
Program Cost and Volunteer Opportunities
The program cost is $30 and includes a performance training shirt that will be given out mid-way through the season. Registration fee does not include entry to the target race Run for Roses 5K in June, nor does it include club membership fee.
Registration is now open via Sign Me Up; note registration will close on April 16, 2012. Click here to sign up.
NOTE: All participants must be members of MCRRC before joining the program. A single membership for one year costs $35.00 and a family membership is $50.00. You can download a registration form or register online.
Since MCRRC is a volunteer organization, we encourage participants in this program to volunteer for a club race. We will provide you with details as these opportunities become available; as we will choose a race that occurs during our training season. Volunteering is a great way to get to know others in the club, give back, and support other runners.
What if I can't make every meeting?
No problem, as long as you keep up with the schedule on your own and maintain steady progress you will still be successful in completing the 5k in June.
Inclement Weather Policy
Running is an all-weather sport, so if it rains, we will still run unless there is lightning. However, storms in one part of the county may not be applicable to where we are running that day. Cancellations/Postponements to the workouts will be posted on the Yahoo! group as soon as possible so you can adjust your schedule and complete the workout on your own; these notifications will be posted no later than 1 hour before our scheduled workout via our Yahoo! group.
Communication and Training information
We use our Yahoo! group, MCRRC_BWR to post the workout schedule, announcements, training tips and discussions. This is our main source of communicating with everyone, so you will need to join the group after orientation to participate in the program.
