PAT ZERFAS WINS SPOT ON USA 2007 INTERNATIONAL BIATHLON TEAM
July 30, 2007
MCRRC member Pat Zerfas not only is an outstanding runner--she's also an outstanding biathlete who recently placed third overall at the Tenth Mountain Ski Club summer biathlon in Fort Kent, Maine. This performace won her a place on the team that will represent the USA at the 2007 International Biathlon Union Summer World Championships in Estonia in September. Summer biathlons are a combination of running and riflery. The Mountain Ski Club Biathlon included three different running events--a sprint, with runners starting 30 second intervals, then a pursuit, with each runner chased after the time gap from the sprint, and then a mass start. Pat, age 45, has won many running awards. Recent winnings include MCRRC's Greenway Trail Marathon, the 46th Washington's Birthday Marathon in Greenbelt, the DCRRC 20K, and she was part of the team that placed first in the National Marathon. As to biathlons, she recently won one in New Jersey, placed fourth in one in Altoona, and just this past weekend won the Virginia State Games Biathlon. Pat was featured in a recent article in the Gazette (available at http://www.Gazette.net). When she is not running, Pat works full time at the National Institutes of Health, where she is a biologist. Congrats, Pat, for your exciting accomplishments, good luck in Estonia in September, and we'll want to hear all about it!

DO YOUR MCRRC CLUB BUSINESS THROUGH THE INTERNET
February 4, 2006
Help us keep your membership up to date, so that you can receive our two club publications, Intervals and The Rundown, and other information, such as party invitations, in a timely fashion. The publications are not forwarded if you move, but you can let MCRRC's administrative officer, Mary Foster, know by email if your address, telephone number, or other information needs updating. Updated information can be emailed to Mary at office@mcrrc.org, or you can leave a message for her at 301-353-0200. In addition, MCRRC plans to use e-mail to notify members about membership renewals, which can be done on line. So that MCRRC may communicate with you better, please send your email address to Mary at office@mcrrc.org, even if you don't need to update other information.
RUN AWARE
February 4, 2006
For your safety and that of others, headphones should never be worn while running on roads, trails, or sidewalks. The use of headphones during MCRRC's races is disallowed in the insurance policy that covers our races. MCRRC currently is organizing a campaign to discourage the use of headphones when running out of doors and is encouraging everyone to be aware of their surroundings, for safety's sake. Stay tuned for further information on this, and please do avoid the use of headphones in your training runs and in races.
ASK THE BOARD!
July, 2005
Do you ever wonder what makes MCRRC run? Who makes decisions regarding policy, budgetary expenditures, establishment of new programs, changes in old ones, the kinds of activities sponsored by MCRRC, and many more issues of relevance to our club? How are decisions made and implemented? Information on current members of MCRRC's Board of Directors can be found at http://www.mcrrc.org, under Club Business, and you also can see the minutes of recent Board meetings under that heading. Members of the Board of Directors always encourage you to participate in club activities at all levels, and they want to be available to answer your questions. In addition to talking directly with Board members, you can pose questions to them through a new electronic-based forum. Just email your questions to: asktheboard@mcrrc.org. Questions that seem to be of general interest, along with the Board's responses to those questions, will be published in The Rundown. MCRRC's Board of Directors normally meets on the first Thursday evening of each month in the Stella Werner Council Office Building, and all MCRRC members are invited to attend. Please let the board know if you plan to make a presentation at one of the meetings, so that you can be put on the agenda.
